WhoPacing home at a soft pace,
a small box lay on the side of the street.
A creature lets out a gentle cry,
and I look at the small thing off to the side.
I walk over to it,
setting my bloodied pipe down.
I smile at the small being,
and pat its soft head.
It's body was of skin and bone,
and pity burrowed deep into my soul.

The small thing,
only a foot high,
barely clung to the side of the box.
It's claws were battered,
no longer could they be used,
and the animals eyes,
were full of pain.
Even a tear seeped down the innocent things face.

I leaned forward and kissed the kindling,
my heart racing in fear.
